Avocado Clinical Research Study

November 5, 2018

Men and women 25 years of age or older, who are healthy, have an enlarged waist circumference (or pants size), and typically consume 2 or less avocados per month, are needed for a study to determine the effect of consuming one avocado per day on decreasing body fat as compared to a usual diet. The study will be held at Tufts University in downtown Boston and will involve between 8 and 15 visits to the center over the course of 6 months.

For the study you’ll be asked to consume one avocado per day or continue your usual diet for 6 months depending on the group you are randomly placed in. Avocados will be provided to you if you are selected for the “experimental” group. If you are selected to be in the “control” group you will receive up to 24 avocados after completing the entire study. You will also be asked to provide blood samples, complete four 24-hour dietary recalls, fill out questionnaires and undergo 2 abdominal MRI scans. You will receive $1070 if you qualify for and complete the entire study. Please call 1-800-738-7555 or email volunteers-hnrc@tufts.edu and request study #2975!
