You might be surprised to learn that memory decline among healthy older adults is not a result of disease, but rather a natural effect of aging. Scientific studies have shown that age-related memory decline can be improved by dietary supplements.
Older adults who consumed a diet high in cocoa flavanols, nutrients derived from cocoa, had improvements in memory. Medical Center now is recruiting participants for a new, NIH-sponsored, research study of the effect of cocoa flavanols on memory and brain activity.
Participants will be asked to take cocoa flavanol capsules once a day over a 12-week period. Study visits will include cognitive testing sessions, blood draws, questionnaires, and MRI scans prior to and after flavanol consumption.
If you are between the ages of 50 and 70, in good health, and can travel to the Medical Center, you may be eligible to participate in this research study and receive up to $350 in compensation. Memories are special, so help us understand how we can keep more of them.
