Seeking healthy, active young individuals

February 28, 2019

This research study will help to determine the lowest possible dose of an L-Carnitine and Creatine supplement to elicit muscle growth promoting plasma levels of these compounds. We are seeking healthy, active young individuals between the ages of 18-30. If you meet the eligibility criteria and are accepted into the study, you will be asked to:

– Visit the center for an initial screening visit to determine your eligibility
– Undergo 4 experimental trials at least 3 weeks apart, each of which will consist of:
– Oral ingestion of the study supplement
– 7 blood draws, each of which will be under a tablespoon (11 ml), over the course of a 5.5 hour period

You will also receive information regarding your health status (e.g., nutritional assessment). The results of the medical screening will be made available to you and/or your primary care physician, upon request. Also, the results of the study may allow others to potentially benefit in the future, due to a better understanding of the optimal dose of L-Carnitine and Creatine for skeletal muscle health benefits.
If you are interested and want more information, please contact the Nutrition, Exercise Physiology and Sarcopenia Laboratory at (617) 556-3082 and ask to screen for the Creatine/Carnitine Supplement Study. You will be asked a series of questions over the telephone to assess your eligibility. If you are invited to attend the HNRCA for further evaluation, you will receive a screening visit payment of up to $55, and if you are accepted into and complete the study you may receive up to $455. All of the visits will be at the HNRCA, located at 711 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111.
